Terms of Service

The short version: Focal gives you advice about your mix; your music is always yours. The free plan includes 3 analyses a month. Pro is $7.99 a month, renews automatically, and you can cancel anytime. Don't share or resell your license key.

Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Locke Sonics (“we”, “us”) about using the Focal plugin, this website and our feedback service (together, “Focal”). By creating an account or using Focal, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Focal.

Your account and license key

You need an email address to get a license key. Give us an email you can access, keep your key private, and let us know if you think someone else is using it. Each key is for one person; you may use it on your own computers.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Focal, and if you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.

License to use Focal

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Focal for making music, including commercial music. You may not:

sell, rent, share or give away your license key or copies of Focal;
reverse engineer, modify or try to get around license checks or usage limits, except where the law allows it;
use automated tools to send requests to our service, or use it in a way that harms it or other users.

Your music

You own your music. Focal doesn't upload your audio, and we claim no rights to anything you make, with or without Focal's help.

Plans, billing and cancellation

Free includes 3 mix analyses each calendar month. Unused analyses don't carry over.
Pro costs $7.99 per month (plus any tax), billed through Stripe. It renews automatically each month until you cancel.
Unlimited means unlimited for normal personal use. To keep the service fair and affordable, we may limit accounts that use far more than any producer reasonably would, and we'll tell you if that happens.
Cancel anytime by emailing support@lockesonics.com. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for, then go back to Free.
Refunds. If Focal isn't working for you, contact us within 14 days of a charge and we'll refund it.
Price changes. If we change the Pro price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it affects your next bill.

Feedback is advice, not a guarantee

Focal's feedback is generated automatically from measurements of your mix, partly with AI. It's meant to help you learn, and it can be wrong or not suit the sound you're going for. Always trust your ears, and save a copy of your project before making big changes. Turn your speakers down when previewing fixes.

Changes and availability

We're always improving Focal, so features may change. We try to keep the service running but can't promise it will never be down. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. You can stop using Focal at any time.

Disclaimers and limits of liability

Focal is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, Locke Sonics isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost projects, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if that's more. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

If we update these terms, we'll change the date at the top, and tell you in advance about significant changes. Continuing to use Focal after changes take effect means you accept them.
